Who? Thara Ladrech, interior and communication designer by training, founder of Little Tribu.

What for? The 3 layers of your skin

I don't think I'm wrong in saying that everyone has an opinion on decoration, architecture. Some people say they don't care, others define themselves as having a Scandinavian, pure, vintage, 50s, modern style... Magazines and TV shows are not lacking in advice, more or less applicable in our "real" square meters. When we rent, especially abroad, the lighting does not necessarily correspond to the function or activity we plan to do in a room. You know what I'm getting at, don't you?

Yes, decoration is not necessarily easy when you are an expatriate, when you travel with your belongings or when you arrive with "three times nothing". How to feel at home when you are far from your roots, your habits?

Human skin is composed of three layers. If I use a metaphor, I would say that three layers also separate us from the outside world:

Our skin: the way we take care of it says a lot about us. I'm not just talking about creams or cosmetic surgery, but accepting our wrinkles, eating healthy, exercising, loving ourselves as we are...

Our clothes: they are our second skin. The style, the materials, the cuts, the observation or not of the influences of fashion, also define us. We feel more comfortable, more confident when we feel good in our clothes. It would be too long to talk about dress codes as social references, but take a look at bankers for example: Have you ever had an appointment with a banker wearing a Hawaiian shirt? Don't worry, I have nothing against bankers or Hawaiian shirts!

Our house: Some people think: "We are only passing through, so decorate... That's not really the priority! Except that decoration, in my opinion, is not just the icing on the cake when you move somewhere. It is essential to think about feeling at home when the outside is still foreign. Our apartment must be a cocoon, an anchor point, a place to recharge your batteries with your family. Let's not even talk about pollution peaks in some countries, or bad weather, when staying home is an obligation. For all these reasons, let's take care of our interior.

I'm sure you've had that nice feeling of walking into a room and saying, "I feel good here." The reverse is also true, which is less pleasant... The same can be said for clothes and our own bodies. From my experience as an interior designer and retail manager in the fashion world, I am convinced that if we manage to synchronize our 3 layers of skin, we will feel better.

A few rules make a real difference, I have defined 12 main ones, applicable on our three layers of skin.

What? Interior consultant-stylist, home designer. Do you want to reorganize your personal lifestyle?

I invite you to discover together 12 golden rules by inviting me to design your interior or scenography projects. Or you can join me in a 3-hour workshop, where we'll talk about theory, but because I believe memory is rooted in the repetition of gestures, we'll also put these cardinal rules into practice together in situ.

I am naturally a curious person, with Diana Vreeland's motto always in mind: "You are not supposed to give people what they want. You're supposed to give them what they don't know they want yet. "
I really believe that "what if" and "thinking outside the box" are essential.
My expertise as Sales Director, Communication and Interior Design Manager for 15 years and now as an Entrepreneur has humbly made me realize that it is our duty to inspire and help people find the best solutions for everyday life.
My multicultural profile helps me understand European and Asian countries. I try to be a bridge between the two continents by respecting the differences that make the wealth of all.

I started my professional life as a team manager for the Danone group, Kerring and Fnac. During my career, I have had the opportunity to work with architects to build stores. I realize that my life has always been influenced by my interest in architecture and interior design. At the age of 38, I decided to study interior design at Ecole Boulle - Paris. Right after graduating, I was hired by IKEA France as a communication and interior design manager. It was a very exciting job, combining team management and interior design. I have travelled across Europe and visited people's homes to understand how they live, what they like or dislike about themselves, and what are the key issues to be solved. We made home visits before opening each IKEA store in order to provide solutions to all domestic problems. I think that's the main reason people think, "IKEA offers good solutions for me." In 2013, I went one step further by creating my own company, in order to combine object design, interior design consulting and scenography. The idea is to help people understand why their home environment is important and contributes to their well-being. This is how Little Tribe House was born...

My motto as an interior designer :

« You're not supposed to give people what they want. You're supposed to give them what they don't know that they want yet. »

Diana Vreeland

"I met Thara when I was expatriated in South Korea. We arrived there with almost nothing, leaving most of our stuff in France and buying all the furniture at Ikea. Our house in Seoul was almost empty but I find the situation normal: we were there very temporarily and, moreover, I launched myself in a zero waste revolution and I liked the idea of a simple and clean home. But somehow I felt something was missing. ... I always find decoration and design something superficial and somehow useless compared to the urgent and serious matters I was always worried about : environment and nature conservation. Interior design was for me an activity for people with time and money not to get bored. But the more I listened to Thara, the more I felt curious about the topic... I participated twice in Thara interior design workshops. I quickly realised that it is not a matter of arranging our interior to stick to an image imposed from outside, showing off or ruining ourselves in buying the most trendy items and furniture available on the market. It’s a matter of psychological balance. Our home is the projection of our mind and as we take care of our body health and appearance, we should take care of our most close environment: home. The very simple principles I learned from Thara have proven to be very useful when coming back to Europe with our suitcases and containers full of memories. Balance between full and empty, respect of proportions, asymmetry, not mixing too many different styles and too many colors in the same room, attention to small details are some of the very simple golden rules that guide my choices in arranging my home. Of course the most difficult principle to apply when you have traveled a lot and brought back so many items from very different places is the first one : find the best balance between empty and full. In this case, in order to avoid living in a kind of big store instead of a home, you have to accept not to expose all of the ornaments you have. It’s better to choose the ones that fit most to your state of mind. Nothing prevents you from changing them from time to time as your state of mind evolves. It's also a good opportunity to get rid of the unnecessary stuff that clogs and suffocates us!"
